Winter has arrived! That is to say the proper cold weather is finally here, as opposed to all that wet, grey nastiness of the last six weeks or so.
Mr. B wasn’t able to get into work today, so, before he had to start working-from-home, the rest of the pack commandeered him and the camera for the morning walk in the wood opposite our house.
We don’t usually walk in this wood as it’s a bit small and surrounded on all sides by busy roads, which means the Old Bird is constantly worrying about the boys dashing off after a squirrel (Popper, that comment’s directed at you!) or boar (Putney!!) and getting into the traffic; today made a change as it was almost eerily quiet while we humans tramped our way slowly round, due to the total absence of any vehicles on the roads.
Pudden and Chey are old hands when it comes to snow and show fairly low levels of excitement, but Popper really went to town
enjoying many a thrash-past – which completely failed to make it onto film due to the falling snow, light conditions, etc. etc. and, probably more to the point, the photographer’s cold hands being unable to function properly.
Slow-moving objects (namely the Old Bird!) were not a problem.
Pud and Chey, being old hands, know that when there’s snow there’s photo opportunities…
… and duly obliged…
… at every turn!
Pud, as ever, managed to get into a minor scrape – he usually likes to accomplish this at least two, preferably three or four, times a week. Today’s was having a good old nosh on a rather thorny stick…
and getting a fair-sized piece of it firmly wedged in the roof of his mouth.
But of course, this being Putney, he won’t let you get anywhere near his chops to get it out,
so you have to just let him get on with it. (Don’t worry, the twig did drop out after a few minutes – and Pud did try to pick it up again to carry on chewing. Honestly, I ask you…!)
By this time the less hardy members of the pack (Mr. B!) had had enough, and it was still snowing pretty hard – not that it shows in the photos – so we headed on back home to the warmth of our new pad and breakfast.

Wow! I am envious!
You’d love it Rumpy! Putney says snow is fun, the only problem is it covers up all the yummy things he likes to snaffle and roll in in the woods – I say that’s its main advantage!!
Superb photographs, as usual
Don’t think I can even pick a favourite this time!
Mind if I share your post on Amos’ blog (When I work out how to do it?)
Ahh thank you, what a compliment!
You’re more than welcome to share any time
Full marks for the delightful photos! Loved the usual fine commentary too! It’s a treat to see the menagerie enjoying winter to the full. Seeing Pud caked in snow reminded me of my childhood. It was some time ago(!) and we wore knitted gloves. Two minutes of snowball throwing was all we could ever manage before we had to stop because our hands were too heavy!
We didn’t make it out for long today today – the snow’s frozen on top and the boys were unimpressed with the feel of it on their tootsies, so we came back after half an hour. And we had to go on the golf course, the woods were full with the running club!
Hyper is the way to describe our little Buster when the snow fall……..doesn’t seem to ball on his paws but getting them dry when you get home is a risky business.
Jack Russells, eh? They never seem to know when you’re doing them a favour!
Putney’s just the same about his paws
what great pictures – we’ve hardly seen any snow over here on the rock! We get the lowest average temperature in the UK but nothing as glam as even a bit of frost!
I thought of you when we got our snow after you said on your post about not having the proper wintery winters of your youth!
Our winter’s been a bit of a damp squib lately mind you – not much frost prior to this!!
The only wintery weather we saw was Friday night when there was a tiny bit of light snow and traffic came to a stand still! My 25 minute trip into work took two and a half hours! That bit of winter I can do without
Ooh, not good! That side of it is a drag for sure!
